Peter Couch

Managing Director, Retirement Solutions, Grainger plc

Peter Couch is Managing Director of Retirement Solutions at Grainger plc and Managing Director of Bridgewater Equity Release, a leading IFA Home Reversion product provider.

Since joining Grainger in January 2005, Peter has negotiated a distribution partnership with Norwich Union, resulting in Grainger Trust funding the Norwich Union Home Reversion product. Peter has also revamped Bridgewater Equity Release, replacing the previous home reversion product with three market-leading flexible products and focusing distribution through IFAs only. These and many other changes have resulted in a several-fold increase in new business levels.

Peter is also a director of SHIP (the trade body set up to self-regulate Equity Release providers).

Prior to joining Grainger, Peter was founder and MD of a specialist equity release consultancy business (PQC Consulting Ltd). PQC Consulting provided strategy, distribution and product development advice to several blue chip providers (new entrants and existing providers) in the UK, mainland Europe and Australia. Clients included Norwich Union, AIB, AMP and Grainger Trust.

Prior to establishing PQC Consulting, Peter was Managing Director of AMP Retirement Services (then the leading reversion provider in the UK).

Peter has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including roles as Sales Director at AMP Bank and National Sales Manager at NPI (a specialist IFA provider).

Peter is regularly called on to provide expert commentary on the issues facing the reversion market, and speaks at various industry conferences.
