Paul Jayson
Partner, Ernst & Young
Paul is based in the London office. He has experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, with particular emphasis on developments and investment work. He has an active investment practice, working for clients including Invista Real Estate, St James's Place UK plc and aAIM, often spearheading cross departmental groups of lawyers from banking, corporate, planning, tax, funds and construction teams.
Paul is increasingly involved in cross border work and is currently advising clients on the roll out development documentation across Central and Eastern Europe. He has also coordinated teams of European lawyers on pan European acquisitions and disposals, including the recent purchase of the €400m Arena shopping and entertainment complex in Budapest. Paul regularly works with colleagues across Europe on cross border work.
Paul is actively involved with the development of UK Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), is the firm's representative of the trade association, REITA and regularly speaks at conferences and provides comment and articles for the property and financial press, including the Financial Times, Reuters, Acquisitions Monthly and Property Work.
Paul has a special interest in sustainability in the built environment. He is at the forefront of DLA Piper's real estate team innovating and developing suites of documentation and best practice in this dynamic area, including the creation of a Green Lease.
Paul is a contributor to the Financial Times, Reuters, Property in Practice, Acquisition Monthly, Property Week and New Law Journal, commenting on real estate and property tax issues.
Key experience:
- co-ordinating a team of 40 lawyers on the acquisition (and subsequent disposal) of a portfolio
of 27 mixed use properties
site assembly, development and letting of £100 million retail park scheme in Cambridge - acting on behalf of aAIM on their purchase of the €400m Arena Shopping and Entertainment Complex, Budapest, Hungary
- leading a team of 20+ lawyers for a UK based client on the acquisition of a portfolio of 279 public houses
- advising Delancey on the redevelopment of the Dickins & Jones department store, Regent Street
- advising a leading Russian bank on the taking of 5 floors of prime City of London office space in a landmark building under going redevelopment
