Established in 1934, Henderson Global Investors is a leading independent global asset management firm. The company provides its institutional, retail and high net-worth clients with access to skilled investment professionals representing a broad range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, property and private capital. Property interests

Henderson is one of Europe’s leading property asset managers with over £11.3 billion (as at 31 December 2007) of property funds managed globally.  The property team comprises over 180 employees in London, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris and Amsterdam.  It also has additional asset management capabilities through joint venture partners in Hamburg and Vienna.

The property business manages pooled and segregated accounts which invest in properties offering core and value-added returns.  In addition to investing across all commercial sectors, the property business also manages funds with sector specialist and/or regional themes.  Henderson’s property business includes a market-leading research capability.  Twice yearly the in-house research team carries out analysis and forecasts returns for over 800 local markets across Europe.

Funds held in the quoted property sector

Henderson has four specialist Luxembourg SICAV Property funds: Horizon Pan European Property Equities Fund (launched in July 1998), Horizon Global Property Equities Fund (launched in January 2005), and Horizon Asia Pacific Property Equities Fund (Launched in October 2005), Horizon pan-European Property Equities Alpha Plus fund (launched December 2007). It also manages a Guernsey-incorporated, closed-end investment company the Henderson Global Property Companies Limited (launched in May 2006).

Plans to launch a REIT?

Our direct property team has no immediate plans to launch a REIT. However, our approach is not to think of the vehicle first, but rather to think of the market investment opportunity and the target investor group, and then create the structure that fits. It is therefore possible that we might consider launching a REIT in the future.

Reason for joining The REITs and Quoted Property Group

Patrick Sumner, Global head of Property Equities, is a founder member of the group. We see the TRQPG as an opportunity to promote the benefits of the quoted real estate sector to a wider, more diverse audience than is presently the case.
